The Presbytere has been going for at least 20 years and is a local legend; it's a real challenge to finish the set menu which starts at 12 euros - turn right onto the main D675 road, then left after 100m to St Barthelemy. Follow the winding road up for about 2 miles until you reach a T junction. Turn left, and you will find the restaurant immediately on the right, next to the church.

The Champignon for virtually bottomless soup tureens! - turn right at Piegut, following the signs to Montbron. Go through Piegut and The Champignon is about two miles down the road.

The Auberge des Arts - the chef is French but the lovely landlady is English and a local character! Menus start at 15 euros. Go past the Champignon and turn right to Bussiere Badil. The Auberge des Arts is in the village centre, opposite the church.

The Auberge at Merigaud, near St. Estephe, has faded decor but delicious French food, pizzas and vegetarian meals. It has a pretty terrace and a bar, so is a good place to while away a summer afternoon.

Our local village of Champniers et Reilhac has a newly opened bar "L'Accordeon" which offers light lunches for 5 euros (including a drink) and has internet access. There is a pretty terrace. The restaurant opposite "Le Rose Des Pres" offers food from the French dependency of Reunion.
The Panivol. Allow several hours for a really special meal. Menus start at 30-35 euros. Continue past the Champignon, and the Panivol is about 2-3 miles further on, signposted to the left.

The Roc du Boeuf, which has a beautiful outdoor terrace next to a river, and has music at the weekends. Menus start at 14 euros. Turn left on the main road, go through St Mathieu and follow the signs to Rochechouart. Turn left just before you enter Rochechouart, and follow the stream round, underneath the chateau for about a mile.

The Sens De La Terre pottery shop in Piegut centre serves delicious lunches and occasional dinners on its pretty terrace. They have good vegetarian dishes. You will find it opposite the Cafe de Sports. Closed Sunday and Monday.
The lovely chateau at Montbrun (which is unfortunately private) has a tavern with Jazz evenings on Fridays throughout the year and themed food evenings every Wednesday. Take the D675 to Piegut and turn left towards Marval and Chalus. Turn left at Dournazac, before you get to Chalus.

The Auberge de Vieux Chateaux in Varaignes serves excellent quality traditional Perigordian fare. Watch out for exhibitions and concerts in the chateaux, or just have a walk round the pretty village before dinner.

Don't forget to watch out for local farmers' markets in summer evenings - our local village of Champniers et Reilhac has a weekly evening market where you can buy food from the farmer and have it cooked for you to enjoy with a glass of wine. Watch out for signs by the side of the road for local fairs.
